IBT training in Ireland

Learn to ride. Find a centre for your Initial Basic Training and motorcycle lessons.

An IBT centre is a training centre approved by the RSA to teach Initial Basic Training

IBT, or Initial Basic Training, is the compulsory course for new motorcyclists in Ireland. It must be delivered by an RSA Approved IBT instructor at an approved training centre. Use the filters below to find centres by county, then check the instructor on the official RSA register before you book.

The RSA sets the course at 16 hours for AM and A1 and 18 hours for A2 and A. Our guide, what is IBT, explains the modules in plain English.

What to check before you book

  • The centre and instructor are on the RSA register.
  • The price is clear and you know what is included, such as bike hire, helmet and gear.
  • The training ground is close enough to attend every module.
  • They can give you dates for your licence category.
